Ah, broken promises. Nobody loves a broken promise. When I gently released my debut novel, The Order of Grimm, out into the world back in January, I had released it with a promise that the sequel, The Glass Coffin Society, would be released over the summer. It is now September, and it should come as no shock to you that the book is not out yet. So what happened? I thought I would have more time to work on Glass Coffin during the run-up to the release of Grimm, but both before and after release I was overwhelmed with the amount of marketing that needed to be done. I had hoped to release the book in October (we can occasionally get 70 degree days in October in the PNW, so that still counts as summer, right?) but with the audiobook date, and my cover artist’s timeline, it really seemed to suggest a November release. I know in my previous newsletter I debated releasing the ebook earlier, but I have since decided to do a simultaneous release and give myself more time for a marketing push. And so, drumroll please…
The official release date for The Glass Coffin Society is… November 11th. The release date will be officially announced in a few days on social media.
What can you expect from The Glass Coffin Society?
Crooked Kingdom meets Anastasia. She's a missing princess. They're a gang of thieves. The real crime would be giving her back.
As for the progress of the book, it’s going great. The cover is edging closer to completion, and I am currently working on formatting the final manuscript. The audiobook is off with my editor, and I finally feel like I have a little more time on my hands. So of course, the first thing I think about is maybe a new project. This one would be an audiobook project. One I have always loved and wanted to record. I’m also noodling with the idea of an audiobook podcast, but I don’t really know if that’s a good idea. Is there room in the podcast world for one more podcast? Is it worth my time? These are some things I’m wondering about.
Finally, The Rogues of Märchen is currently featured in a promo for Free fantasy books based on myths, legends and fairytales. So load up your Kindle. Maybe you’ll find some new favourite reads!
What I’m recording: I just wrapped up my recording of Murder on Hunter’s Eve by Morgan Stang. It ends on a cliffhanger. I don’t know when I’ll be scheduled to record the next book, but I can’t wait to read it. I have now moved on to recording The Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohammed, and it is a beautiful book that just zips along. Some books just feel like a nice fit, and this Hugo nominee is one of those.
As for what I’ve been doing with my free time. Essentially, trying to get out and enjoy the last bit of summer. I made lavender syrup and pear jam. All from the backyard. I also broke out the kayak a few times and had a couple of encounters with sea lions.
What I’m consuming now: I’m going to mention two things this week. One is going to be wildly negative and one is going to be gushingly positive. The first thing I watched was The Thursday Murder Club movie on Netflix. It was… bad. From little things like making Coopers Chase look like Hogwarts, to the baffling decision to get rid of every red herring in the novel and simplify the story so much that it changes the ending of the book and the fate of a major character in the series. If you’re a fan of the book, my advice is to keep well away. It’s rare that a movie can compete with the book, but this is probably the most egregious adaptation I’ve come across in some time. On the positive side, I have been watching Alien: Earth, and the most recent episode, In Space, No One…, was Noah Hawley’s ode to Alien. It felt like an Alien mini-movie. It was imperfect, but I enjoyed the tension and surprise as well as the way it made me view certain characters in a new light.
Until next time!
